A Life Reimagined - The George Masa Story

Join us, along with Albert Carlton Cashiers Community Library, Highlands Biological Foundation, Highlands-Cashiers Land Trust, and the Highlands Historical Society, for a Sneak Peek Screening of A Life Reimagined: The George Masa Story, followed by a Q&A with filmmaker Paul Bonesteel.

George Masa was a pioneering yet enigmatic photographer who documented western North Carolina in the early 20th century. He, along with Horace Kephart, hiked and photographed the Smoky Mountains. Masa was born in Japan and ended up in western North Carolina, and photographed the Cashiers-Highlands area. For years, his life has been shrouded in mystery. In 2007, historians discovered a cache of Masa's letters written in Japanese that began to shed light on his life. Paul Bonesteel's new film, A Life Reimagined: The George Masa Story, presents a fuller picture of Masa, whose photographs helped make western North Carolina the destination it is today.
