Holidays at the Historical Society invites visitors to step back in time and experience holiday traditions unique to Southern Appalachia. This magical evening captures the warmth and wonder of the holiday season, offering a candlelight tour of the historic Zachary-Tolbert House. Guided by the Cashiers Historical Society Staff, you’ll learn about past holiday traditions and how they’ve changed over time, all while admiring the home’s beautiful holiday decorations. Carolers and holiday music will fill the air, adding to the charm of this festive evening!

In addition, Colonel John’s Cabin will be beautifully decorated for the season, providing the perfect setting for the whole family to enjoy making classic Christmas crafts. Seasonal treats will be served, and you can warm up around a cozy fire where guests from one to ninety-two can make s’mores and raise a cup of holiday cheer!

Event Information

When you arrive at the Cashiers Historical Society, a parking attendant will guide you to a spot. Upon arrival, please check in with your ticket at the Dowden Pavilion. Candlelight tours will take place every 45 minutes. You must select a specific time slot when purchasing your tickets. You will be guided to the house for a tour at your selected time. Before or after your candlelight tour of the Zachary-Tolbert House, visit the Zachary Family Cabin, where traditional Christmas crafts will be made and seasonal treats will be served. While you are here, walk the property to view the beautifully decorated campus and warm up around a cozy fire at the Pavilion while enjoying s'mores and hot cocoa!

Holidays at the Historical Society takes place in historic buildings and outdoors, so please dress warmly and in layers. Sturdy, weather-appropriate footwear is essential for navigating the historic grounds. Be prepared for cold temperatures and the possibility of rain to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable evening.

​Please note that food and beverages are not permitted in the Zachary-Tolbert House to preserve this historic home.
